WORD PROBLEMS

Example 14: A milkman gets 46 550 m of milk from four cows. If he gets the same quantity of milk every day, how much milk will he get in 180 days?

Quantity of milk given by the cows in one day = 46 550 m

= 46.55

Quantity of milk the cows will give in 180 days = 46.55 × 180

= 8,379

Thus, the milkman will get 8,379 of milk in 180 days.

Example 15: 8607.275 kg of hay was distributed equally among 925 cows. The remaining was fed to a goat. What quantity of hay did each cow get? What quantity of hay was fed to the goat?

Total quantity of hay = 8607.275 kg

Number of cows = 925

Quantity of hay each cow got = 8607.275 kg ÷ 925

= 9.305 kg = 9 kg 305 g

Quantity of hay left over = 0.150 kg or 150 g.

Thus, each cow got 9 kg 305 g hay and 150 g hay was fed to the goat.
