What is the Temperate Zone?

The Temperate Zones lie between the Frigid and Torrid Zones. These zones experience a moderate climate. This is because they are away from the Equator and the poles. Most grasslands are found in this zone. Figure 5.1 helps us identify the various heat zones of the Earth.

Grasslands

Grasslands are vast plains covered with grass, situated in warm and dry places. They are known as Prairies in North America, Steppes in Asia, Velds in Africa, Downs in Australia and Pampas in South America.
