In cities, most houses are made of bricks and cement. They are called pucca houses. Pucca houses are stronger than kachcha houses.

Different materials are used to make different kinds of houses. Examples of such materials are mud, straw, dry leaves, bamboo, wood, brick, cement and stones. People use materials that they find easily.

Huts are mostly found in villages. These houses are not very strong.

Bungalows are mostly found in towns and cities. They are big in size.

Some residential buildings in big cities have many floors. There are houses on each floor, called flats or apartments. These buildings are known as multi-storeyed buildings.

Stilt houses are built in places where it rains a lot. These houses are built on stilts. The stilts are made of wood or bamboo.

Places that are always covered with snow have igloos. People use blocks of snow or ice as bricks to build igloos.

Houseboats are floating houses. They are built on boats. Many tourists stay in houseboat hotels during holidays.

Caravans are houses with wheels. People drive caravans from one place to another.
